The Projecta 12/24V 50A DC-DC Battery Charger with MPPT Solar and IQ Screen accepts alternator and solar input. The Projecta Intelli-Charge 50 Amp Dual Battery Charger is also a DC to DC charger that takes alternator and solar input. It is not a 240V mains charger.

240V MAINS BATTERY CHARGERS

LITHIUM JUMP STARTERS AND POWER BANKS

WHY MODERN 4WD CHARGING NEEDS CAREFUL PLANNING
Smart alternators vary their output according to the vehicle's control strategy. That output may not provide the consistent charging conditions required by an auxiliary battery. A DC to DC charger controls the supply reaching the auxiliary battery instead of relying on alternator voltage alone.
Battery chemistry also matters. The selected charging profile must suit the battery manufacturer's requirements. A battery isolator or voltage-sensitive relay may still suit some older, simpler systems, but it does not provide the same charge control as a DC to DC unit.
Solar integration is another consideration. A charger with built-in MPPT can manage a compatible connected solar panel without a separate controller. Where the DC to DC charger has no solar input, a separate compatible solar controller is required.
CHOOSE BY USE CASE
For a touring vehicle using alternator and solar charging, consider the Projecta 12/24V 50A DC-DC Battery Charger with MPPT Solar and IQ Screen or the Projecta Intelli-Charge 50 Amp Dual Battery Charger. Check that the selected product suits the complete electrical system.
For an installation that needs electrical separation between the input and output, consider the Victron Orion-Tr Smart Isolated DC-DC Charger. Whether an isolated model is appropriate depends on the vehicle, canopy or trailer wiring.
For charging from 240V at home, choose the Victron Blue Smart IP22 Charger rather than assuming a DC to DC product accepts mains input. For emergency starting, select one of the listed Intelli-Start jump starters. It is recovery equipment, not a replacement for an auxiliary battery and installed charger.
Charger output should be selected against auxiliary battery capacity, the battery manufacturer's permitted charge rate, typical loads and available driving time. A larger rating is not automatically better. The alternator, cabling, fusing and battery must all be able to support it.

WHAT A QUALITY INSTALLATION INVOLVES
DC to DC installation is auto-electrical work. The charger needs airflow, correctly sized cable and appropriate fusing on the input and output sides. Cable length, expected current and voltage drop all affect cable selection. Undersized wiring can prevent the charging system from performing as intended.
The control or trigger arrangement must also suit the vehicle. Smart-alternator systems can require different triggering from older fixed-output systems. Charge settings must then be configured for the connected battery and considered as part of the complete system.
