Mud Flaps

Mud flaps help control water, mud and stones thrown from the tyres. They can reduce debris reaching the bodywork, a trailer or vehicles travelling behind you. Effective coverage depends on the flap dimensions, wheel offset, tyre size, suspension setup and mounting position. Mud guards and splash guards should therefore be selected against the vehicle as it is currently configured, particularly after wheel, tyre or suspension changes.

This collection includes three Roadsafe mud flaps sold as single items: Plain Black, 4x4 and 4x4 OFF ROAD. Ordering individual flaps lets you replace one damaged unit or assemble the quantity required for the vehicle. The product grid also contains Bushranger Mud Tamer floor mats for front and rear cabin areas. These are interior mats, not wheel-arch protection.

WHY A QUALITY MUD FLAP MATTERS

Tyres can direct stones, mud and water towards the lower body, side steps and anything behind the vehicle. A correctly positioned mudguard flap provides a physical barrier in that path. Coverage matters as much as material. A flap that is too narrow, too short or mounted too far from the tyre may leave exposed areas.

The mounting arrangement also needs enough security for corrugations and track use while allowing suitable clearance through suspension and steering movement. Direct tyre contact can damage the flap or its mounting points.

CHOOSE BY USE CASE

Plain black suits fleet vehicles, work vehicles and builds where a neutral finish is preferred.

Standard 4x4 suits owners who want visible 4x4 styling without assuming a particular tyre or suspension specification.

4x4 Off-Road suits buyers who prefer the off-road design. Confirm its actual dimensions against the vehicle rather than selecting it solely from the name.

For modified vehicles, measure how much of the tyre is exposed when viewed from behind and consider wheel travel, steering clearance and the position of existing mounting points. A lifted suspension does not automatically determine the required flap. Wheel offset, tyre width and bodywork changes also affect the result.

MOUNTING OPTIONS

Some vehicles have usable mounting points within the inner guard. Others require mud flap brackets or a vehicle-specific mounting solution. Do not assume that existing holes will suit every universal flap. The mounting surface must support the flap without placing unsuitable loads on trim or thin body panels.

Before installation, check clearance at normal ride height and through the available steering and suspension movement. The flap should not rub directly on the tyre or interfere with nearby components. Our workshops can inspect the mounting area and advise whether straightforward fitting or a fabricated bracket solution is appropriate.

PAIRING WITH OTHER PROTECTION

Mud flaps address debris thrown from the tyres. They do not replace underbody plates, wheel-arch trim or other protection selected for exposed components. Consider each area separately and make sure added parts do not obstruct the flap or its mounting position.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING MUD FLAPS

Start with the required width and length, then check the available mounting area. Account for wheel offset, tyre position, suspension movement and any flares or body modifications. Inspect whether the flap can hang freely without contacting the tyre. Also confirm whether suitable fasteners or separate brackets are required for the installation.
