4WD RECOVERY POINTS AND RECOVERY HITCHES

Vehicle-specific front points and receiver-mounted rear options

4WD recovery points provide a purpose-designed connection between recovery equipment and the vehicle structure. A rated recovery point is different from a factory transport tie-down, tow ball or an unverified universal hook. Recovery loads are dynamic, so the attachment, mounting hardware and recovery method must all suit the vehicle and the manufacturer's instructions.

This collection includes Roadsafe recovery points and a Recovery Tow Hitch Kit, the Bushranger Recovery Hitch and Shackle Combo, and the rope-friendly SaberPro® recovery hitch. We can also fit compatible products at our Ferntree Gully and Pakenham workshops.

KEY CATEGORIES AND WHAT THEY'RE BUILT FOR

BOLT-ON RECOVERY POINTS (FRONT)

Vehicle-specific brackets for the front of compatible 4WDs. Confirm the exact vehicle application, required hardware and whether the manufacturer specifies installation as a pair.

RECOVERY HITCHES (REAR)

A recovery hitch fits a compatible rear receiver and provides an attachment intended for suitable recovery equipment. It replaces the tow ball as the recovery connection.

HITCH AND SHACKLE COMBOS

These combine the receiver insert with a compatible shackle connection. Check receiver size, product rating and manufacturer instructions before use.

WHY FACTORY TIE-DOWN HOOKS ARE NOT RECOVERY POINTS

A factory tie-down point should not be treated as a recovery point unless the vehicle manufacturer specifically approves it for that use. Transport tie-downs may be intended to restrain a vehicle during shipping rather than withstand a dynamic recovery load.

If an unsuitable hook or attachment fails, the released hardware and recovery line can become dangerous projectiles. Use a documented rated recovery point, follow the product instructions and keep people clear of the recovery area.

VEHICLE-SPECIFIC ENGINEERING

Front recovery points must match the vehicle's chassis geometry, mounting locations and surrounding accessories. Compatibility can also change with a bull bar, bash plate or other front-end equipment.

Do not assume that a point for one platform or model variant will fit another. Check the product application information and supplied hardware before ordering. Where compatibility is unclear, our workshop can review the vehicle and installed accessories.

FRONT RECOVERY POINTS: CHECK THE REQUIRED CONFIGURATION

Many front systems are designed around two recovery points and a suitable bridle. This arrangement can distribute the recovery load across both sides rather than applying it through one off-centre connection. The correct method still depends on the recovery point manufacturer and the vehicle.

Fit the complete configuration specified for the product. Do not add a second unmatched point or substitute mounting hardware without documented approval.

REAR RECOVERY VIA A RECOVERY HITCH

A tow ball is intended for towing and should not be used as the connection for a kinetic recovery. A compatible receiver-mounted recovery hitch provides a dedicated rear attachment for the recovery equipment specified by its manufacturer.

The phrase tow hitch recovery point is often used for this setup, but the rating belongs to the complete recovery arrangement, not the receiver opening alone. Check the receiver, pin, hitch and shackle or rope connection together. The Bushranger combination and Roadsafe kit provide packaged rear options, while the SaberPro® product uses a rope-friendly hitch design.

BRIDLE AND SOFT SHACKLE SETUP

A bridle may be used across a matched pair of front recovery points when the point manufacturer permits it. It helps share the load and maintain a more central pull.

A soft shackle provides a lightweight textile connection, but it still needs to be compatible with the recovery point, rope-friendly surfaces and the load requirements. Inspect all recovery equipment before use and replace damaged components.

CHOOSE BY USE CASE

For front recovery, start with a vehicle-specific rated recovery point and confirm compatibility with the vehicle's existing bar work. For rear recovery through a suitable receiver, choose a recovery hitch or a complete hitch and shackle combination.

If you searched for a saber recovery point, note that the stocked SaberPro® item is a rear Rope Friendly Recovery Hitch rather than a vehicle-specific front point. Roadsafe covers the front recovery-point option in this collection and also supplies a rear tow hitch kit. Bushranger supplies the combined hitch and shackle product.

BRANDS IN THIS COLLECTION

Roadsafe supplies vehicle-specific Recovery Points and a Recovery Tow Hitch Kit in the current collection. Confirm the precise vehicle application and rating from the individual product information before purchase.

Saber supplies the SaberPro® Rope Friendly Recovery Hitch. This aluminium recovery hitch is intended to provide a suitable surface for compatible recovery equipment when installed and used according to its instructions.

Bushranger supplies the Recovery Hitch and Shackle Combo, which packages the receiver insert and shackle connection together.

WHAT A QUALITY RECOVERY POINT INSTALLATION INVOLVES

Correct fitting starts with confirming the part application and checking that other accessories do not obstruct the mounting location. The mounting faces, specified hardware and bolt condition must be checked before installation. Fasteners should be tightened to the manufacturer's procedure and torque specification, with any required follow-up inspection completed as directed.

Our Ferntree Gully and Pakenham workshops can assess compatibility and fit 4WD recovery points or rear recovery hitch equipment for suitable vehicles. Frequently asked questions

Can I use my factory tie-down hooks as recovery points?

Not unless the vehicle manufacturer specifically identifies them as suitable for recovery. A transport tie-down may not be designed or rated for dynamic recovery loads. Using an unsuitable attachment can cause hardware or the recovery line to release dangerously. Check the owner's information and use a documented rated recovery point where required.

That depends on the recovery-point design and the manufacturer's instructions. Many front systems use a matched pair with an approved bridle to distribute load across both sides of the vehicle. Do not assume that any two points form a suitable pair. Install the complete system and hardware specified for your vehicle.

A tow hitch normally describes the receiver and towing assembly. A recovery hitch is an insert designed to provide a connection for compatible recovery equipment. Tow hitch recovery point is commonly used as a general description, but suitability depends on the receiver, insert, retaining pin and connection method working together within the manufacturer's instructions.

The marking and rating must be checked on the specific Roadsafe product and its manufacturer documentation. Confirm the exact part number, vehicle compatibility, supplied hardware and recovery instructions before fitting or use.

We can assess customer-supplied recovery points before accepting the fitting work. The product must be identifiable, compatible with the vehicle and accompanied by the correct hardware and installation information. Existing bull bars, underbody protection and previous chassis work can affect fitment, so approval is subject to a workshop inspection.

Either arrangement may be suitable when it is documented for the vehicle and recovery method. Some bar systems may include or accommodate specific recovery attachments, while others require separate vehicle-specific points. We check the bar, mounting system, underbody accessories and product instructions before recommending a configuration or quoting the fitting work.

A soft shackle is a textile recovery connector used in place of metal hardware in suitable applications. It is lightweight and avoids adding a steel shackle at the connection, but it must suit the rated recovery point or rope-friendly hitch surface. Follow the recovery-equipment manufacturer's instructions and inspect it before every use.

That cannot be answered as a blanket yes or no. The outcome depends on the vehicle, product, mounting method, other modifications and the regulations that apply in your state or territory. Follow the manufacturer's installation requirements and check the relevant state rules. Our workshop can discuss the proposed fitment before work begins.

Provide the vehicle make, model and variant, along with details of any bull bar, bash plate or front-end modifications. Also identify the recovery point or recovery hitch you want fitted. Our Ferntree Gully or Pakenham workshop will review compatibility, advise what inspection is required and confirm booking availability without promising a fixed installation time.

Shipping availability can depend on the item, destination and current catalogue status. Check the product listing or contact Ultimate Offroad with your vehicle details and the exact Roadsafe, Saber or Bushranger product required. The team can confirm whether the item is suitable and what delivery options are available before purchase.

Product warranty terms depend on the manufacturer and the specific item purchased. Workshop workmanship coverage should also be confirmed when the fitting is quoted. Keep the invoice, product documentation and installation records. Damage caused by incorrect recovery technique, incompatible equipment or use outside the manufacturer's instructions may not be covered.
