A snorkel pre-cleaner adds an initial foam filtration stage at the snorkel ram head or inside the snorkel opening. It catches airborne dust before that material reaches the vehicle air filter, making it a practical addition for vehicles regularly driven in dusty conditions. A pre-cleaner supplements the vehicle air filter rather than replacing it. The vehicle air filter must remain installed and maintained as directed for the vehicle. Choosing the correct pre-cleaner depends on the snorkel head, its size and whether the product fits externally or internally, so do not select from the vehicle name alone.

AVAILABLE OPTIONS AND WHAT THEY SUIT

ARMAX SNORKEL PRE-FILTER

The Armax option is made for the corresponding snorkel application. Match the product name to the snorkel fitted to the vehicle and check the listed fitment details before ordering.

TJM SNORKEL PRE-FILTERS

The collection includes separate options for a TJM snorkel and a small TJM snorkel. The descriptions are not interchangeable, so identify the fitted ram head and compare its size and shape with the relevant product listing.

SNORKEL RAM HEAD COVERS

The PRECLEAN 43/3 ram head cover and AEV snorkel PRECLEAN 57/3 are external cover options. Use the product code and stated snorkel application to distinguish them rather than assuming that one cover fits every ram head.

4 INCH STAINLESS SNORKEL PRE-FILTER

This option suits the listed 4 inch stainless snorkel application. Confirm the snorkel opening and the intended fitting position before choosing it over an external ram head cover or another internal option.

FORD F SERIES SNORKEL PRE-FILTER

The Ford F Series product is the listed option for that application. Check the snorkel fitted to the vehicle because the vehicle name by itself does not establish that every snorkel head has the same shape or fitment.

SMALL AND LARGE INTERNAL PRE-FILTERS

The small and large internal pre-filters fit within the relevant snorkel opening rather than over the outside of a ram head. Determine the required size from the fitted snorkel and the current product details before selecting either version.

WHAT A SNORKEL PRE-CLEANER DOES

The foam pre-cleaner is positioned before the vehicle air filter in the intake path. Its role is to collect dust at the snorkel entry, where it can be removed and cleaned as required. This can make intake maintenance easier to manage during dusty travel because the pre-cleaner is a separate, accessible component.

It does not replace the air filter, repair a damaged intake or make an unsuitable snorkel connection fit correctly. Continue inspecting and maintaining the vehicle air filter, snorkel and intake system independently. A pre-cleaner should also be fitted securely without distorting the foam or obstructing the intended airflow path.

HOW TO MATCH THE CORRECT PRODUCT

Begin by identifying the snorkel and ram head already fitted. Look for the relevant application name, such as Armax, TJM, AEV, Ford F Series or 4 inch stainless. For TJM applications, establish whether the standard or small option is required.

Next, determine whether the pre-cleaner belongs over the ram head or inside the snorkel opening. External covers and internal pre-filters use different mounting positions. Compare the product photographs, application wording and current fitment information with the snorkel in front of you.

Do not choose solely because two openings appear similar. Head shape, opening size and retention method can affect fit. The correct product should sit in its intended position securely and allow the ram head or snorkel opening to remain properly assembled.

CLEANING AND REFITTING

Inspect the pre-cleaner more frequently when dust builds up quickly or conditions change. Remove it carefully so collected material is not tipped into the snorkel. Follow the current Unifilter Australia directions for cleaning products, cleaning method, drying and any preparation required before reuse.

Before refitting, check the foam and its mounting area for damage, poor seating or trapped debris. Complete the specified drying and preparation steps, then return the pre-cleaner to the correct position. Make sure it is secure and that no edge is folded or displaced.
