Lighting is what keeps you on the road after dark on remote tracks, country highways and rural roads where wildlife strike risk is highest. Driving lights covers a range of products with very different jobs: spot beams throw light a long way down a country road but illuminate a narrow corridor, flood beams light up the verges where wildlife actually stands, combo beams blend both, light bars give wide flood coverage for off-road tracks, and work lights illuminate the campsite without lighting up other vehicles. Pick the wrong type and you have spent good money on lights that do not solve the problem.

DRIVING LIGHTS, SPOT FLOOD AND COMBO

Spot beam lights throw a tight beam 1km or further down the road, useful on long, straight country highways. Flood beam lights spread wide, illuminating the verges and edges where animals appear. The standard touring setup is one of each (or a single combo pair), spot for distance, flood for awareness.

Stedi ST-X, Lightforce HTX2 and Ultra Vision Nitro are the lights we install most often. Lumens alone do not tell you much, what matters is beam pattern, candela rating (one-lux distance) and the quality of the lens. Compare those, not just lumen numbers.

LIGHT BARS

An LED light bar mounts on the roof, the bull bar or the bonnet line and gives wide, even illumination of the track ahead. Best for off-road night driving where you need to see ruts, washouts and obstacles, not 1km up the road.

We stock single-row and double-row bars in lengths from 22 to 50 inches. Most touring builds run a 32 to 42 inch bar on the roof or grille. Roof mounting gives wide distant flood, bar-top mounting gives forward flood at headlight height, and grille mounting gives low forward fill. The choice depends on the vehicle and the driving you do.

WORK LIGHTS AND CAMP LIGHTING

Around camp you want broad floodlight without dazzling other campers or your own crew. Stedi work lights and Bushranger reverse and cargo lights mount under awnings, on rear bars and on canopies, with auto-on sensors and switching options for camp setup.

For the rear of touring rigs and canopies, work lights also serve recovery and trail-side mechanical scenes, where being able to see what you are doing is the difference between a 30-minute fix and a long, frustrating night.

WIRING IS WHAT MAKES THE SYSTEM WORK

The lights are only one part of the install. The harness, relay, fuse, switch and (on modern vehicles) CAN-bus integration determine whether the system fires reliably for years or fails on a wet bitumen night. We use Narva and Stedi-supplied OEM-grade harnesses, route wiring through the engine bay properly, and integrate switches into the dash cleanly.

Modern Rangers, Hiluxes, LandCruisers and similar use CAN-bus for switching and dash integration. Tapping factory CAN-bus circuits the wrong way throws dash codes and can disable factory features. We use CAN-bus-aware harnesses and switch interfaces where required, so high-beam triggers driving lights without dash drama.

Lightforce is the premium-tier driving light brand. The HTX2, Striker and Genesis ranges are still benchmarks; higher cost, higher long-term reliability. We fit Lightforce on professional and serious expedition builds. Narva is the established Australian brand for OEM-grade driving lights, light bars and the wiring components that hold the system together. Narva harnesses, relays and switches are the standard kit on most installations.

Bushranger covers solid mid-tier driving lights, light bars and work lights, a balanced choice for builds that want reliable kit at a price that leaves budget for the rest of the vehicle. We also stock Front Runner camping lighting and National Luna fridge and cabin lighting.

WHAT A QUALITY LIGHTING INSTALLATION INVOLVES

Lights mounted poorly, wired badly, or aimed wrong are the difference between a system that works for a decade and one that fails in the rain. We install at Ferntree Gully and Pakenham with proper harness routing through the engine bay, fused circuits, dash-mounted switches, and beam alignment to ADR specification.
