Towing Accessories

4WD towing accessories should be selected as one connected system. The receiver, tow ball mount, tow ball and hitch pin must be compatible with each other and suitable for the intended load. A higher rating on one component does not increase the limits of the vehicle, towbar or another component in the connection.

This collection covers adjustable ball mounts, Curt vibration-damping mounts, a vehicle-specific X-Bar and hitch pin options for securing the mount in the receiver. WHY TOWING ACCESSORY QUALITY MATTERS

A towing connection is limited by the lowest applicable vehicle or component rating. Check the vehicle towing limit, towbar or receiver, tow ball mount, tow ball, hitch pin and trailer documentation. These checks also need to account for actual loading and any conditions stated by the manufacturers.

A hitch pin must match the receiver and pass fully through its retaining points. Locking changes how the hitch pin is removed, but does not increase its capacity. Inspect the receiver, mount and retention hardware for wear, damage or movement before towing.

CHOOSE BY USE CASE, BALL HEIGHT AND DRAWBAR MATCH

Measure the trailer coupling height with the trailer loaded as it will travel and standing level. Compare it with the vehicle receiver at the expected towing load. Suspension position can change after coupling, so the final geometry must be checked as a complete setup.

An adjustable hitch can provide the required rise or drop where a fixed mount does not align correctly. The TAG Adjustable Tow Ball Mount 297mm Long provides a longer mount format. The Mister Hitches 12 Stage Adjustable Ball Mount provides multiple height positions. The manufacturer-stated Hayman Reese 2500kg Adjustable Towball Mount Kit is another option where that rating is suitable.

For rough-road use, consider whether a vibration-damping design suits the vehicle and trailer combination. For a mount left in an unattended vehicle, a locking hitch pin can deter removal. Neither feature replaces correct rating, fitment and loading checks.

SHOCKDROP AND VIBRATION-DAMPING HITCHES

A rigid mount transfers movement directly through the towing connection. The Curt Rebellion XD ShockDrop and Curt Rebellion Shock Drop Hitch use a polyurethane damper intended to reduce trailer chatter transferred through the receiver. A Curt hitch still needs to match the receiver, required rise or drop, tow ball and applicable ratings. Damping does not increase the vehicle's approved towing capacity.

LOCKING HITCH PINS

A standard hitch pin can be removed without a key. A locking hitch pin adds theft deterrence when the ball mount remains in the receiver. Choose the format by receiver dimensions and usable pin length, not appearance alone.

The Dogbone Style Push Lock 70mm, Long J Style 95mm and Two Pin Holes with Clip provide different retention formats. The Set of 2 Keyed Alike Dog Bone Style 70mm provides two locking hitch pin units operated by matching keys. Confirm dimensions before ordering.

X-BARS AND TOWBAR REPLACEMENT

An X-Bar is a bolt-on, chassis-mounted towbar replacement. The application in this collection suits the Ford Ranger PX III from 8/2015 to 5/2022. Fitment still depends on the exact variant and any rear-bar, wiring or accessory changes already made.

Do not treat physical fit as confirmation of compliance. Follow the manufacturer's installation documentation and check the requirements that apply in the relevant state or territory. Our workshop can review the proposed combination if compatibility is uncertain.

Start with the specific vehicle and trailer documentation. Confirm receiver size, required rise or drop, tow ball size, component ratings and secure hitch pin retention. Check the coupling, safety-chain attachment and trailer wiring before departure. More complex towing setups may require further equipment or assessment, depending on the vehicle, trailer, loading and applicable regulations.
