DIFF BREATHER KITS FOR 4WDS

Fully sealed breathing that returns to the induction system

Driveline housings need a breathing path as internal pressure changes. The Harrop Breather Kit uses a four-port, fully sealed system that breathes back into the vehicle's induction system.

This design differs from a conventional atmospheric breather extension. It does not relocate an open vent or filter to a higher point in the engine bay. Instead, the sealed circuit uses the induction system as its return path and eliminates the need for a breather filter.

The system is suited to driveline preparation for water crossings and dusty conditions, but it does not make the drivetrain waterproof or replace inspection and servicing after demanding use.

KEY CATEGORIES AND WHAT THEY'RE BUILT FOR

The Harrop Breather Kit provides a sealed alternative to conventional breather arrangements. Installation requirements depend on the intended application and the vehicle's existing layout.

SEALED INDUCTION-RETURN BREATHING

The Harrop system returns breathing airflow to the induction system instead of venting through an atmospheric termination. Its fully sealed layout also removes the need for a separate breather filter.

FOUR-PORT SYSTEM LAYOUT

Four-port describes the layout of the Harrop system. It does not by itself establish how many vehicle breathers will be connected in a particular installation. The intended connections and routing must follow the relevant Harrop application and installation information.

WHY A SEALED BREATHER SYSTEM MATTERS ON A TOURING 4WD

When driveline housings heat and cool, pressure changes must be managed through their breathing system. Water, mud and dust around an exposed atmospheric breather can create a contamination risk, particularly during demanding off-road use.

The Harrop Breather Kit approaches this by keeping the breathing circuit fully sealed and returning it to the induction system. This differs from conventional kits that extend an atmospheric vent to a higher location.

A breather kit remains one part of driveline preparation. It does not establish a safe wading depth, protect damaged seals or remove the need to follow the vehicle manufacturer's inspection and maintenance requirements. If contamination is suspected after a crossing, arrange appropriate driveline inspection and servicing.

CHOOSE BY USE CASE

For a touring vehicle that may encounter water crossings or dusty tracks, consider whether the Harrop sealed induction-return design suits the intended application and existing vehicle layout.

Installation planning should account for the required connections, the route to the induction system and nearby accessories. Modified vehicles may have different available routes or mounting locations.

BRAND WE STOCK AND WHY

The Harrop Breather Kit uses a four-port, fully sealed design that breathes back into the induction system and eliminates the use of a filter.

Its induction-return arrangement is the defining feature to consider when comparing it with conventional atmospheric breather extensions. Vehicle application and installation requirements should be established from the relevant Harrop information before ordering or fitting.

WHAT A DIFF BREATHER INSTALLATION INVOLVES

Installation involves identifying the intended connections, following the specified four-port layout and creating a secure route back to the induction system. Connections and lines must remain clear of excessive heat, abrasion and moving components.

The finished system should remain fully sealed, securely connected and accessible for inspection. It should not be converted into an atmospheric high-point vent or fitted with a filter, as that would not reflect the Harrop system's stated design.

Fitting is available through our Ferntree Gully and Pakenham workshops. If you are not sure whether the Harrop Breather Kit is suitable for your vehicle, reach out to our friendly staff with your vehicle and modification details.

Submit a service enquiry with your vehicle details, or email sales@ultimateoffroad.com.au, and our friendly staff will confirm fitment, quote the work and arrange a booking at Ferntree Gully or Pakenham.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a diff breather kit if I never do water crossings?

Water crossings are not the only consideration. Dust, mud, vehicle use and the existing breather arrangement may also influence whether a sealed breather system is appropriate. The Harrop Breather Kit uses a fully sealed induction-return design rather than a conventional raised atmospheric vent.

Fitment cannot be established from the vehicle name alone. Make, model, variant, transmission and modifications may affect the application and installation. Refer to the relevant Harrop application information before ordering. If you are not sure, reach out to our friendly staff.

Warranty treatment can vary between vehicle manufacturers, dealers, products and installation methods. Check the applicable manufacturer's warranty terms and speak with the relevant dealer if the vehicle remains under warranty. Keep the product and installation records with the vehicle's service information.

The Harrop Breather Kit does not replace the vehicle manufacturer's service schedule. Continue to follow the specified inspection and oil-change requirements. Water crossings or suspected contamination may justify an earlier inspection and appropriate driveline servicing.

The Harrop system does not use a conventional atmospheric vent terminating at a higher point in the engine bay. It is a fully sealed system that breathes back into the induction system and eliminates the need for a filter.

Compatibility depends on the vehicle's application, existing hardware and available routing. An air locker's pneumatic lines perform a different function from the breather system. If you are not sure, reach out to our friendly staff with details of the vehicle and its modifications.

Contact our friendly staff with your vehicle make, model, variant, transmission and relevant modification details. Fitting can be arranged through our Ferntree Gully or Pakenham workshop, subject to application and workshop availability.

A capable owner may be able to install the kit with the appropriate tools, safe vehicle access and relevant Harrop instructions. Correct connections, sealed routing to the induction system and clearance from heat, abrasion and moving components are important. If you are not sure, reach out to our friendly staff.

The fully sealed Harrop design avoids using an exposed atmospheric breather filter by returning the system to the induction path. It does not eliminate contamination through damaged seals or other faults, so routine inspection and appropriate servicing remain important after demanding use.

Road-use requirements can vary by jurisdiction, vehicle and installation. Check the requirements that apply where the vehicle is registered and used. Seek advice from the relevant regulatory or engineering authority if formal approval may be required.
