Recovery boards give a bogged 4WD a prepared surface to drive onto when the tyres cannot find grip. They suit common sand, mud and snow recoveries, but no single device covers every situation. Vehicle position, terrain, available anchor points and suitable recovery points all affect which method should be used.

CHOOSE BY USE CASE

For sand, snow and firmer mud, recovery boards are usually the first device to consider. Clear enough material for the board to sit securely, position the MAXTRAX traction boards in the intended direction of travel and apply controlled power. Repeated wheelspin can damage equipment and make the vehicle settle further.

In deep mud or soft ground, traction boards can become buried with the tyre. BOG OUT is intended for situations where wheel rotation can be used against a suitable anchor. The correct BOG OUT configuration depends on the vehicle, terrain and manufacturer instructions.

For a winch-assisted recovery, assess every part of the load path. Saber soft shackles, the Saber Alloy Winch Shackle Pro, the Saber Offset Hawse Fairlead and the Bushranger snatch block serve different roles. Product ratings, recovery points and compatibility must be checked before use.

BOG OUT RECOVERY DEVICES

BOG OUT is designed to attach between a driven wheel and a suitable anchor so wheel rotation can help move the vehicle. It addresses a different use case from MAXTRAX traction boards, particularly where boards cannot establish a stable track. Follow the current BOG OUT instructions and inspect the route, anchor and attachment arrangement before applying load.

SABER AND BUSHRANGER RECOVERY HARDWARE

The Saber range in this collection includes soft shackles with protective or Technora binding, the Alloy Winch Shackle Pro and an offset hawse fairlead. Match Saber hardware to the complete recovery system rather than selecting one component in isolation.

The Bushranger Snatch Block 11,000kg is a rated component listed for this collection. The rating of one component does not determine the capacity or suitability of the complete recovery arrangement.

CARRYING RECOVERY DEVICES

External mounts keep MAXTRAX traction boards available when the vehicle is already bogged. BOG OUT equipment, Saber shackles and other recovery hardware should be stored together, protected from damage and easy to identify. Inspect the equipment before a trip and after any recovery. Follow the relevant manufacturer guidance for cleaning, inspection and retirement from service.
