Removable equipment. The Cub Pack format suits equipment that needs to be packed at home or carried away from the vehicle. Separate cases can keep different types of gear together without requiring the full drawer contents to be unpacked.

Vehicle-based storage. A fixed compartment layout can suit tools, spares and equipment that normally stays with the vehicle. Buyers comparing ute drawers or canopy drawers should first check the usable footprint, opening clearance and mounting surface. Wagon layouts also need to account for seat position and access to the load area.

Combined accessory layouts. For a drawer fridge slide arrangement, confirm the drawer specification, fridge and slide loads, mounting method and usable height before committing to the layout. A flat surface alone does not confirm that every combination is suitable.

CUB PACK VS TRADITIONAL DRAWER STORAGE

The Front Runner Cub Pack approach separates the drawer structure from the removable storage cases. That makes sense when cooking, recovery or work equipment needs to be carried to where it will be used. Cases can also be repacked outside the vehicle between trips.

A traditional drawer keeps its contents in a fixed compartment accessed from the tailgate. It can be the more practical approach when tools, spare parts and vehicle equipment remain in the load area. Neither format is automatically better. The correct choice depends on how the vehicle is used and how the load needs to be accessed.

DRAWER DIVIDERS AND LOAD PLANNING

Dividers help prevent mixed equipment collecting at one end of a drawer on rough roads. Plan each compartment around the actual items being carried rather than filling every available space. Keep heavier equipment low and closer to the vehicle centre where the installation allows. Place lighter, frequently used items where they can be reached without unloading other gear.

Review the complete vehicle load as well as the drawer contents. The drawer, mounting hardware, cases, tools, recovery gear, fridge and other accessories all contribute to the finished vehicle mass.

WHAT A QUALITY DRAWER INSTALLATION INVOLVES

A drawer installation must account for the vehicle or canopy structure, mounting locations, load distribution and access. The base needs to sit level and square so the drawer can move correctly. Mounting hardware and attachment points must suit the structure and the loads involved. Existing tie-down points should not be assumed suitable without assessment.

The layout must also leave enough clearance for the drawer, tailgate, canopy doors and surrounding accessories. Where a fridge slide, cargo barrier or other equipment forms part of the build, the components need to be planned together.
