High-visibility identification for dunes and active work sites
A vehicle safety flag helps other drivers identify a 4WD before the whole vehicle appears over a dune or blind crest. It also gives light vehicles a taller visual marker around heavy equipment. It is an aid to visibility, not a substitute for route rules, radio calls, speed control or site procedures.

Sand-driving rules differ between destinations and can change. Before a trip to Fraser Island, Bribie Island, Stockton Beach, the Simpson Desert, the Coorong, Eyre Peninsula or Lancelin, check the current requirements published by the relevant authority or land manager. A sand flag may be compulsory in one area and only recommended in another.
Mine sites and quarries set their own light-vehicle requirements. Some require a safety flag so light vehicles are easier to see near heavy machinery. Confirm the operator's specification, including flag colour, height and mount, before entering the site. Do not treat a retail product description as site approval.
Club drives and training days may also set equipment rules. Ask the organiser what is required and where the flag must sit on the vehicle.
Pole position matters more than the name of the mount. The flag needs to clear the vehicle's highest point, including a canopy, roof rack, awning or carried gear. A lifted 4WD or a vehicle with roof-mounted equipment may need a different setup from a standard-height vehicle.
Flag visibility depends on height, colour and condition. Inspect the flag and pole before use, particularly after long outdoor exposure or contact with branches.
Mount choice is vehicle-specific. A suitable bracket must hold the pole securely, keep it clear of the body and other accessories, and avoid creating a clearance problem when the flag is not needed. Confirm compatibility before ordering. If you are not sure, reach out to our friendly staff.
Bull bar mounting is a common option where the bar already has a suitable flag tube or can accept a compatible sleeve. Check the actual bar rather than assuming that every bull bar uses the same arrangement.
Roof rack mounting can work where there is no suitable bull bar point. The bracket needs to suit the rail or platform, and the pole must be removed when its height would create a clearance risk.
A-pillar or wing mounting is less common and depends on the vehicle and available hardware. It can be considered when the bull bar and roof rack do not provide a practical location.
For dune driving, start with the destination's current rule, then consider the vehicle's total height and mounting points. A sand flag must be positioned for visibility, not simply attached wherever a bracket will fit.
For industrial use, the site operator decides what is acceptable. Confirm whether the requirement specifies a flag colour, height, mount or other site-specific hardware before buying.
For club training or mixed touring, choose a setup that can be inspected easily and removed when it is not needed. Allow space around UHF antennas, driving lights, awnings and roof loads.
