A tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) reports tyre pressure and temperature to a dash unit. Configurable alerts can warn the driver about falling pressure, rising pressure or high temperature before the problem becomes visible from the driver's seat. This is particularly useful when towing because changes at a trailer wheel may be harder to feel immediately.
Ultimate Offroad supplies the Safety Dave Tyre Pressure Monitoring System shown in this collection. Its external sensors screw onto the valve stems and transmit readings wirelessly to the dash unit. The system provides configurable low-pressure, high-pressure and high-temperature alarms for vehicle and trailer tyres.

KEY CATEGORIES AND WHAT THEY'RE BUILT FOR
EXTERNAL-SENSOR TPMS
Safety Dave Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. A Safety Dave TPMS setup with valve-mounted sensors, a wireless dash display and configurable pressure and temperature alerts.
WHY EXTERNAL SENSORS ARE THE PRACTICAL CHOICE
Two main TPMS formats are used. Internal sensors sit inside the tyre at the valve stem. Accessing them requires the tyre to be removed from the rim. External sensors replace the valve caps, so fitting or moving a sensor does not require wheel removal or a balancing reset.
That layout makes external sensors easier to transfer when the vehicle or trailer arrangement changes. It also simplifies battery access. The trade-offs should still be understood. Each sensor adds a small amount of weight at the valve stem, and an externally accessible sensor has some theft risk.
The Safety Dave TPMS uses an anti-theft nut to secure each sensor to the valve stem. This reduces casual removal but does not eliminate the need to keep track of the supplied removal tool.
CHOOSE BY WHEEL COUNT
Start with the number of road wheels you want the dash unit to display. A four-wheel vehicle with a single-axle caravan generally needs six sensors. A dual-axle caravan arrangement needs eight, while a triple-axle trailer arrangement needs ten.
Safety Dave describes configurations that can monitor up to 22 wheels across the vehicle, trailer and other tow-behind arrangements. This is a manufacturer capacity claim and the correct configuration still depends on the exact setup.
Each sensor must be paired to the correct wheel position. When ordering, provide the vehicle and trailer wheel count so Ultimate Offroad can identify the appropriate sensor configuration.
ALARMS AND CONFIGURATION
The Safety Dave dash unit provides configurable alarm thresholds:
- Low pressure. Warns when a tyre falls below the configured pressure threshold, helping identify a slow or faster pressure loss.
- High pressure. Warns when pressure rises beyond the chosen upper threshold during operation.
- High temperature. Warns when the reported temperature exceeds the configured threshold. This can indicate a tyre or nearby wheel component needs inspection.
Thresholds should reflect the intended operating pressures rather than a generic setting. Vehicle pressures should follow the vehicle handbook, while caravan pressures should follow the applicable caravan information plate and tyre requirements. If operating pressures change for off-road use, review the alarm settings as well.
WHY TRAILER TYRE MONITORING MATTERS MOST
A driver will often feel a problem at a vehicle tyre sooner than a problem at a trailer tyre. Continued travel on a deflated or overheating trailer tyre can damage the tyre, wheel and surrounding components. It can also affect trailer stability.
TPMS does not prevent punctures or replace tyre inspection. Its role is to provide earlier information about pressure or temperature changes, giving the driver an opportunity to stop and investigate before continuing.
BRANDS WE STOCK AND WHY
This collection stocks Safety Dave only. Safety Dave is an Australian RV safety brand with Australian support and warranty backing. Its tyre pressure monitoring system combines external sensors, a dash display and configurable alarms in a format suited to 4WD, caravan and trailer arrangements.
WHAT A QUALITY TPMS INSTALL INVOLVES
Begin with every tyre at the correct operating pressure. Fit the external sensors and secure the anti-theft nuts as specified. Pair each tyre pressure sensor to its correct position on the dash unit, then configure the pressure and temperature thresholds for the vehicle and trailer. Finish by producing a controlled pressure change and confirming that the correct wheel position generates an alert.
Careful identification matters when several trailer axles are being monitored. A warning is only useful if the driver can quickly match it to the affected wheel. The configured thresholds also need to suit the actual road or off-road pressures used by the setup.
The Ferntree Gully and Pakenham workshops can fit and configure Safety Dave TPMS as a standalone job or as part of a wider 4WD and caravan setup. We fit the sensors, secure the anti-theft nuts, pair the dash unit, configure the alarms and test the system. Send us a service enquiry with your vehicle, trailer and total wheel count so we can quote and arrange a suitable booking.
Email sales@ultimateoffroad.com.au with your vehicle details and our friendly staff will confirm fitment, quote the work and arrange a booking at Ferntree Gully or Pakenham.
