The Bush Company 180 XT MAX and RAXAR 180 Degree models provide side coverage in a more compact layout. Consider this format when rear coverage is unnecessary or available rack space is limited.
270 DEGREE AWNINGS
A 270 degree awning wraps from the side towards the rear of the vehicle. This format suits builds where shelter is required over both the side setup and rear cargo area.
XT AND XT MAX VARIANTS
The collection includes 270 XT, 270 XT MAX and 180 XT MAX products. When comparing a Bush Company XT awning with an XT MAX model, use the individual product specifications rather than assuming differences from the name alone. Check dimensions, mounting requirements and compatible accessories.
LEFT AND RIGHT HAND MOUNT
The Bush Company 270 models are listed in left and right hand versions. The correct choice depends on the mounting side and the direction in which the awning must wrap around the vehicle. We can check the layout before ordering.
WHAT FREESTANDING MEANS
A freestanding awning is still attached to the vehicle. The term describes a canopy designed to support itself without vertical poles when the manufacturer permits it. It is not a detached tent or stand-alone campsite structure, and the vehicle must not be moved while the awning is attached and open.
Conditions can change quickly. Use poles, pegs and guy ropes whenever the product instructions or weather conditions require them. Pack the awning away if conditions exceed the manufacturer's directions. Freestanding design does not remove the need for correct anchoring or judgment at camp.
CHOOSE BY USE CASE
Choose a 180° model when the main requirement is shelter along the vehicle side. It suits a straightforward camp layout where cooking, seating and access remain beside the vehicle. Its smaller coverage area may also simplify placement around trees or neighbouring sites.
Choose a 270° model when the rear door, tailgate kitchen or cargo area also needs cover. Check whether the awning opens in the correct direction, clears rear doors and accessories, and provides useful coverage for the way the vehicle is actually packed.
AWNING WALLS AND ACCESSORIES
Walls can extend weather protection and privacy around a compatible awning. We stock matching awning wall kits for The Bush Company range. Compatibility is model-specific, so confirm the exact awning and wall kit before ordering.
A wall-equipped awning is not automatically equivalent to a sealed tent. Consider the expected wind, rain, ground surface and ventilation, then follow the instructions supplied with the awning and walls.
MOUNTING AND RACK COMPATIBILITY
The awning must attach to a suitable rack or crossbar system. Capacity needs to be assessed using the exact awning, the awning mounting bracket, the vehicle limits and every other item carried on the roof. Static and dynamic loads should not be treated as interchangeable.
We supply roof racks and roof rack accessories. If a rack is already fitted, send clear photos and its details so we can assess the awning mounting bracket pattern and available clearance.

NOT SURE WHICH AWNING TO PICK?
A wide awning is not automatically the right awning. A 270° layout may be unsuitable if the rack, available mounting area or surrounding accessories cannot support the installation. WHAT A QUALITY AWNING INSTALLATION INVOLVES
Installation starts with checking the vehicle and rack instructions, available capacity, mounting points and clearance. The brackets and fasteners must suit the rack and awning. Once mounted, the awning should deploy without contacting doors, antennas, lights or other accessories. Tension, pole operation, guy ropes and pack-down should also be checked against the product instructions.
