PROPORTIONAL VS TIME-DELAY
A time-delay controller sends a preset level of trailer braking after the brake pedal is applied. Its response does not directly match the vehicle's actual rate of deceleration. That can require more compromise when setting output for changing traffic, loads and road conditions.
A proportional electric brake controller measures vehicle deceleration and adjusts the trailer output accordingly. Light vehicle braking produces lighter trailer braking, while harder deceleration produces a stronger response. Correct output adjustment remains important because trailer load, brake condition and road surface all affect how the combination behaves.

The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite V3 and Hayman Reese Guardian IQ provide proportional control. Choose by use case, preferred control layout and confirmed vehicle compatibility.
Choose the Redarc Tow Pro Elite V3 when a discreet dash layout is a priority. Its main unit is concealed and the separate control is positioned within the driver's reach. Its operating modes provide a choice between proportional automatic operation and driver-controlled output.
Choose the Hayman Reese Guardian IQ when an integrated display and adjustment interface better suits the cabin layout or driver preference. The visible display makes it easier to check the selected output without relying on a separate concealed unit and remote knob arrangement.
Neither controller should be selected on brand alone. Confirm the vehicle's factory tow package, available mounting position, trailer connector and brake type first. A clean physical fit is only part of the job. The controller must also be electrically compatible with the complete towing setup.
VEHICLE-SPECIFIC HARNESSES MATTER
Brake controller wiring on a modern 4WD needs to account for the vehicle's electrical architecture and factory tow equipment. An incorrect signal pickup or unsuitable connection can cause faults or unreliable brake operation. This is not a circuit that should be connected by assumption.
Where a suitable vehicle-specific harness is available, it can connect through the intended factory interface and reduce unnecessary loom modification. Availability varies by vehicle and controller. Where there is no suitable harness, the custom brake controller wiring must use confirmed signal points, appropriate protection and secure cable routing.
