WHY CHOOSE POLY
Poly does not rust and is less prone to denting than a metal container. Product suitability still depends on the exact material specification, intended liquid, installation method and exposure conditions.
Do not assume every poly tank is approved for drinking water, exterior mounting or fuel. These products are water tanks and must not be used for fuel. Check the manufacturer's information for drinking-water suitability, UV resistance, fittings and cleaning requirements for the selected model.
CHOOSE BY CAPACITY AND MOUNTING
Choose by use case first. Consider the number of people travelling, time between reliable refills, intended water use, available payload and whether the tank needs to be portable or permanently installed.
20L jerry can: consider the proposed restraint, access and handling requirements.
40L footwell tank: check passenger clearance, access and how the filled tank will be restrained.
42L vertical tank: allow room for fittings, filling and venting around the vertical format.
45L tank with mounting system: check the supplied mounting arrangement against the proposed installation position.
50L universal tank: plan the mounting position, restraint and any required plumbing before installation.
An auxiliary water tank can add reserve water capacity. For builds that also carry fuel, use a separate, purpose-built fuel system and direct fuel tank enquiries to our workshops.
PLUMBED VS JERRY USE
A jerry can format may suit a removable arrangement, while a plumbed water tank can supply an outlet when paired with suitable components. In either case, follow the product and installation instructions and secure the tank appropriately.
A plumbed setup may require a compatible pump, hose, fittings, fill point, vent and electrical supply. Requirements vary by layout. See poly water and fuel tank accessories for the available categories.
MOUNTING AND SECURING
A filled tank places changing loads on its mounts during braking, cornering and rough-track travel. It must be restrained against movement in every direction. Tank shape, filled weight, mounting surface and manufacturer instructions determine the appropriate hardware.
Do not assume that a body panel, generic strap or existing load point is suitable. Allow clearance around fittings and hoses, and make sure the tank can be inspected. For relevant hardware categories, see securing solutions.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING A TANK
Check the external dimensions, intended liquid, manufacturer-stated material suitability, port locations and mounting requirements. For a plumbed installation, also plan the fill point, vent, pump, outlet and hose routing. Confirm that every fitting is compatible with the tank and intended use.
Vehicle load limits and installation requirements still apply. Permanent or externally mounted water systems may be affected by vehicle configuration and state or territory regulations. Check the relevant requirements before committing to an installation.
