A 4WD fuel filter system must manage contamination without disrupting fuel delivery. Adding a Direction Plus PreLine-Plus pre-filter kit upstream of the factory filter provides another stage for intercepting water and particles before they reach sensitive fuel-system components. It does not replace the factory filter. The two work together as a staged filtration system.

WHY AN ADDITIONAL PRE-FILTER IS WORTH CONSIDERING

Water, sediment and degraded fuel can place extra load on a diesel vehicle's factory filtration system. A correctly selected pre-filter adds an earlier filtration stage and can function as an additional water separator. This is particularly relevant when fuel quality may vary or diesel is carried in portable containers.

A pre-filter is not a substitute for sound fuel handling or regular servicing. Its value is in giving the factory filter another layer of protection while providing an accessible, serviceable element that can be inspected and replaced.

HOW TO CHOOSE A PRE FILTER KIT

Start with the vehicle application, then consider how the 4WD is used. The bracket, hose routing and available engine-bay space are specific to the application. Do not assume a kit listed for one LandCruiser 70 variant fits every variant.

FOR REMOTE OR REGIONAL TRAVEL

Choose a vehicle-specific kit and carry the correct spare element. Inspect the bowl and element as part of trip preparation, particularly when fuel sources will be limited or variable.

FOR AN EXISTING INSTALLATION

Identify the housing and current element before ordering. If you have an existing Fuel Manager kit, use its markings or part number to confirm whether the listed Roadsafe Fuel Manager 30 micron replacement element is suitable.

FOR A COMBINED ENGINE-BAY UPGRADE

The PreLine-Plus and ProVent combo product may suit a LandCruiser 70 build where both systems are required. Review engine-bay layout and existing accessories before selecting the combined package.

SERVICING AND REPLACEMENT ELEMENTS

Follow the product manufacturer's service guidance and adjust inspections to the vehicle's operating conditions. Water collection, suspected contaminated fuel or a change in fuel delivery behaviour may justify an earlier inspection. Do not rely on a single fixed interval for every vehicle and use case.

The PreLine-Plus housing has a drain point for releasing trapped water. Use the manufacturer's procedure, observe appropriate fuel-handling precautions and investigate repeated water collection rather than simply draining the housing and continuing indefinitely.

PAIRING A PRE-FILTER WITH A CATCH CAN

A fuel pre-filter and an oil catch can address different systems. The pre-filter is installed in the fuel supply path. A catch can is fitted to the crankcase ventilation system to reduce oil mist reaching the intake. Catch cans are also available in the catch cans collection.

Roadsafe supplies the listed Fuel Manager replacement element. Treat it as a service component for a compatible existing housing, not as a universal element for every diesel pre-filter.

WHAT A QUALITY PRE-FILTER INSTALLATION INVOLVES

Installation requires more than finding space for the housing. The filter must be positioned correctly in the fuel path, with secure mounting and hose routing that avoids heat, abrasion and moving components. Connections must remain sealed against air entry and fuel leakage. The system then needs to be primed and checked according to the kit and vehicle procedures.
