- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) testing: Confirms axle load strength and durability.
- Brake Testing: Performed laden, unladen, and under partial system failure in compliance with ADR35/00.
- ESC Testing: If required, ensures the electronic stability control system remains as effective as, or better than, OEM settings.
The GVM is the maximum manufacturer-specified weight a vehicle can carry when fully loaded. A Tough Dog upgrade increases the Hilux’s legal carrying capacity while staying compliant with ADRs and road laws.
Approval is based on registration status:
- Federal Approval: Available for brand new vehicles prior to first registration. Comes with an additional compliance plate.
- State Approval: For already-registered vehicles, approval is achieved using Federal compliance data alongside an inspection by an authorised state engineer.
